OPEN WHEEL MINI MOD RULES 2008 Roll Cages: A. The frame is defined as the center of the front ball joint to the rear of the roll cage (minimum). Brackets for front of leaf springs or front of lower control arms must attach to square tubing. B. Frame components must be a minimum of 14-guage, 2 x 2 square tubing or 14-gurage 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 rectangular tubing. C. A 6-point-type roll cage (including two bars from the top of the roll cage to the rear portion of the chassis) with three (3) hip bars on the left side is required. D. The main four points of the roll cage must be constructed of minimum 1 ½ outside diameter x 13-guage wall round tubing. E. The side exit openings must be a minimum of 12 high and maximum of 16 high. F. There must be foot/leg protective bars incorporated into the roll cage. G. A bar diagonally across the top of the roll cage is required. H. A firewall separating the drivers compartment from the fuel tank, engine and radiator is mandatory. I. A-frames, spindles or lower control arms cannot be lightened. J. Front sway bars allowed. Must be stock OEM to cross member with stock mounting. K. Bumpers and nerf bars may not have any sharp corners. 1. Front Bumper a. Must be constructed of minimum 1 outside diameter x 13- gauge tubing. b. Must be double tube-type with a minimum of 5 separating outside to outside. c. Horizontal tubes must be parallel, both in the horizontal and vertical planes. d. Must be attached to frame. 2. Rear Bumper a. Must be constructed of minimum 1 outside diameter x 13- gauge square tubing. b. Rear bumper cannot extend beyond outside of the tires. 3. Nerf Bars (No rear edges or corners allowed) a. May not extend beyond outside of the tires. b. Nerf bar is required on the right side of car. c. Nerf bar must be mounted no more than 6 inches from each end.
Bodies: A. The minimum roof height is 42 measured from the ground. B. From the center line of rear axle housing to rear of body must be a minimum or 20 and a maximum 34. C. The rear deck may be no higher than the body side panels. D. A 1 to 4 rake is allowed on roof. E. Window opening must be the same on both side of car. F. Side windows must be open. G. Must have screen or 4 bars in front of driver. H. Lexan rear quarter windows allowed. I. The rear of the hood must be enclosed. J. The sides of the engine must not be covered with body panels and must be exposed at all times. You may use a small deflector to shield the fuel pump, filter, coil, oil filter and master cylinder. Individual reflectors should only be one inch larger than what it is shielding. K. All body components must be a minimum of 4 above ground. Chassis and Wheel Base: A. Wheel base must be a minimum of 90 and a maximum of 104 measured From center of lower ball joint to center line of rear axle housing. B. Front end must be OEM clip. C. Front end width as measured at cross member may not be altered. Suspension-Front and Rear: A. Frames and Suspension 1. No fiberglass leaf springs. 2. Only one (1) shock absorber per wheel. No remote or external canister type shocks allowed. 3. Rear shocks must be attached to rear end and frame (no linkages). 4. No aluminum body shocks. 5. No cockpit-adjustable rear weight jack allowed. 6. Trailing arms can be no shorter than 14 and no longer than 20 ½. 7. No coil-over shocks; no coil-over unit. Coil springs must have minimum outside diameter of 4 ½ inches. 8. No floating suspension components or bird cages. 9. All front suspension components must be OEM and unaltered for the front cross member being used. Front end suspension can use S-10 front cross member, factory lower A-arms, top after market A-arms, any OEM spindle. Can use Mustang K members OEM. Use OEM lower A-arms, and after market upper A-arm; Can relocate the shocks. Can use OEM Pinto cross member, OEM lower control arms, OEM Spindles, tubular upper A-arms, can use after market Pinto style Cross member that measures to Pinto specs. No round tubing cross Members. 10. Upper A arms may be mounted in any location. Lower A arms must be mounted in OEM mounts and in the OEM location for cross member. 11. Intermarriage of spindles, steering arms, strut rods, hubs, A arms and steering components is permitted only within OEM: must be GM to GM, Ford to Ford. 12. Spindles, steering arms, A arms, and steering components may NOT be lightened, bent, shortened or altered in any way. B. Steering 1. In-cockpit steering may be modified to suit drivers taste, but must be kept on the left side of the cockpit. No center steering. 2. Solid steering joint recommended. 3. No boxing-in of steering column. 4. A quick-release steering wheel is required. 5. A steering quickener is recommended but must pass safety inspection. 6. Steering wheel must be 13 minimum diameter. C. Brakes 1. All brakes must be stock (any stock production) components after master cylinder; no proportioning valve or no shut-off valve. No aluminum components after master cylinder. 2. Disc brakes allowed on rear. 3. Brakes must be capable of locking three (3) wheels. 4. Master cylinder may be an aftermarket model. 5. No brake floaters. Tires and Wheels: A. Transmissions 1. One (1) 360-degree steel drive shaft hoop of sufficient strength to contain the drive shaft is required. 2. The car must have a working clutch. 3. No aluminum flywheels or drive shafts. All drive shafts must meet a minimum specification of 2 outside diameter and must be of conventional slip yoke design. 4. No button clutches. 5. A 1.5 inspection hole shall be drilled in the bell housing which must be accessible for the tech inspector to see the clutch, flywheel, pressure place, etc. 6. An explosion-proof bell housing or steel scatter shield, Ό thick x 6 wide, is mandatory. Scatter shield must be designed to contain flywheel/clutch assembly or direct it into the ground and must extend to frame rail top height o both sides. 7. Holes may not be drilled in scatter shields. 8. Transmission must be stock OEM type with all working gears in standard shift. B. Flywheel/Clutch 1. Clutch-factory OEM clutch and flywheel. Flywheel must weigh 13 pounds minimum. Scatter-proof bell housing recommended. 2. Clutch and pressure plate must match flywheel. (stock) C. Differential 1. Differential assembly must be from American-made pony cars. 2. Rear-wheel-drive only. 3. Rear-end gears may be locked (welded). 4. No quick-change rear-ends or floaters allowed. 5. Rear-ends may not be narrowed. 6. No 9 Ford center section. 7. No aluminum rear-end parts. 8. No ratios deeper than 4.11 to1. 9. No torque sensor devices allowed. Engine: A. Maximum compression is 170 lbs. B. 2300 cc max. Max bore 60 over. C. Factory OEM 5.2 rods and crank. No lightening or knifing. Stock stroke for engine. D. Any hydraulic cam and lifters only. (no rollers or solid) E. Factory OEM head must match block. Decking of head and intakes are permissible. No aftermarket intakes. No dual camshaft heads. F. Pistons will be flat or dished. No domes-may be aftermarket. G. Stock car. Or Holley 4412 (must have choke horn) and gas only. One inch adapter spacer permitted. H. No dry-sump oiling. No external pump oiling. I. No reverse cooling. Water pump and pulley must be OEM to block. No aluminum water pumps on Fords. J. Engine offset must remain inside frame rails. Engine setback shall be a minimum 60 from centerline of axle housing to the back of the bell housing flange. K. Radiator-One (1) radiator only: must be mounted in front of engine and must not protrude from the car. Weight: A. The minimum weight of the car with driver after the race must be 1750 lbs. Aspiration-Fuel: A. A fuel cell is required. B. Fuel cells other than metal must be enclosed in a minimum 20-guage steel container. C. No blowers or turbo-chargers. D. Fuel must be pump gasoline only. No alcohol. No nitrous oxide or nitro. No nitrous devices allowed. No methane. E. One (1) fuel line only connected to carb. One (1) one piece steel fuel filter must be between pump and carb. No vacuum lines on carb., or on intake manifolds. Aluminum: A. No aluminum body shocks, drive shafts, flywheels or rear-end parts. Claim Rules:
1. $350 and swap 50 to tech and wrecker 300 to claimed winner 2. Only top 3 drivers eligible to claim 3. When swapping motor both cars must fire and run to inspectors satisfaction 4. Must run 3 races before eligible to claim 5. Must have 6 starting cars for a claim to be made
